Claims Made and Notified Basis of Cover - A reminder that Professional Indemnity insurance is issued on a ‘Claims Made’ basis of cover. This means that any potential claim must be made and notified to insurers during the policy period in order for the policy to respond. It is important that any potential claims are notified to our office/the insurer as soon as they become apparent.

After the policy expiry, no new claims can be made on the expired policy, even though the event giving rise to the claim may have occurred during the policy period.

It is therefore recommended that policyholders should take ‘Run Off’ cover for up to seven years, in case you are notified of a potential claim from previous work undertaken, or you cease to trade.
